There are many issues that follow adoption. Parents of children with Attachment Disorder have a tough job. Traditional approaches to parenting usually don't work. People outside of their immediate families don't understand what's wrong. Schools, agencies, and other community organizations often blame them for their kids' problems, and they often are not able to offer any helpful solutions.

Feeling invalidated by society, their children, and even their extended families, these parents often become depleted and feel burned out. They desperately need somewhere to get help, support, relief and hope. In the fall of 1998, our Following Adoption support group formed to begin meeting this need in Southeastern PA.

Meeting on a monthly basis in West Chester, PA, our group has served over 100 adoptive families who are parenting over 200 children of all races and abilities. Our support group is a place where parents can feel supported and heard, breathe a sigh of relief, learn more about the causes and treatment of Attachment Disorder, and network about available resources for our children.

The response has been very positive from our members who consistently feel refueled, no longer alone, and finally understood.

Following Adoption also provides access to adoption items and books to purchase via the web as well as articles, links and an online email group making us a portal for information on adoption.
